What is the Duke of Edinburgh's International Award?
The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award is the world’s leading non-formal education framework and accreditor for young people. It empowers young Australians aged 14-24 to explore their full potential and find their purpose, passion and place in the world. Girl Guides Victoria is proud to deliver the Duke of Ed to youth members aged 14+ and Olave and adult members aged 18-25.

Benefits of Completing a Duke of Ed Level
- Receive a certificate and a badge which can be worn on the 14+ tab shirt or adult badge tab.
- Eligibility for La Trobe’s Aspire Early Entry Program.
- Be prioritised for an interview when applying for a position with a Duke of Ed Employer.

Duke of Ed Framework
At each level of the Duke of Ed, there are four main sections: Voluntary Service, Physical Recreation, Skills and the Adventurous Journey. At Gold Level, there is also the Gold Residential Project.
There are three Duke of Ed Levels, each one requiring a greater time commitment. The Bronze Level is for ages 14+, the Silver Level for ages 15+ and the Gold Level for ages 16+. The Bronze Level can be commenced at age 13 if you are in Year 9.

How do Girl Guides complete the Duke of Ed?
Girl Guides Victoria members can complete their Duke of Ed through the Girl Guides Victoria Duke of Ed Centre. Unlike many other Girl Guide badges and awards, Guides will are assessed by their normal Unit Leader/ peer group (however Guides are encouraged to share your progress with your unit!). Duke of Ed Levels are instead supported and assessed by the Girl Guides Victoria Duke of Ed Leader.
Guides should still speak to their Unit Leader/Peer Group prior to starting a Duke of Ed Level, as this provides an opportunity to discuss cross-crediting and other opportunities.

Duke of Ed Registration Fee
To commence a Duke of Ed Level, there is a one-off registration fee of $210 paid to Duke of Ed Victoria.
Funding support is available through the Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award – Australia to members who may require assistance with Duke of Ed fees and costs.
