Youth Mental Health First Aid Training- Highton

Youth Mental Health First Aid Training- Highton
Did you know that one in four young Australians currently have a mental health condition? Did you know that half of all mental health disorders start by the age of 14? Did you know that some of these young Australians will be in your Girl Guide unit?

Registrations extended! Registrations now close Monday 16 October.

The Youth Mental Health First Aid Course is designed for adults working or living with adolescents (those aged between 12 and 18 years), however, the course can be relevant for those helping people who are a little younger or older. The course is not only relevant for your volunteering as a Girl Guide Leader, but will also undoubtedly prove useful in your everyday life.

The course teaches adults how to assist adolescents who are developing a mental health problem or in a mental health crisis. Course participants learn about adolescent development, the signs and symptoms of the common and disabling mental health problems in young people, where and how to get help when a young person is developing a mental illness, what sort of help has been shown by research to be effective, and how to provide first aid in a crisis situation.

A grant was received from Beyond Blue to qualify a Youth Mental Health First Aid Instructor for Girl Guides Victoria, who will be running 6 courses across Victoria over the next two years. These courses will be offered to members of Girl Guides Victoria ‘at cost’, with a view to being as accessible as possible.

This is a 14 hour training which is being offered over four 3.5 hour morning sessions across a four week period.
Saturday 28 October, 4 November, 11 November and 18 November 2017.

It is compulsory to attend all four mornings to complete the training.

Places are limited. Register today to avoid disappointment.
